Anxiety Disorders Panic Attacks
Understanding
The Difference Between Anxiety Disorders Panic Attacks &
Limited Symptom Panic Attacks
To
understand whether individuals are suffering from anxiety
disorders panic attacks which can lead to extreme fear and
isolation due to anxiety and worry, or more limited symptom
panic attacks, one first must understand the
person.
This is because while the two conditions
are quite different, in some regards, they are also somewhat
similar. Therefore, knowing the difference in anxiety disorders
and limited symptom panic attacks can be a very tricky one in
this regard. However, it is knowledge that can save the life of
oneself or others, when one knows what to do if confronted with
an individual experiencing either condition.
Although individuals with anxiety disorders
may experience multiple attacks in one episode, which often
flow into one another, whereas episodes are much shorter when
it comes to individuals experiencing a limited symptom panic
attack. Also, a limited symptom attack tends to be a single
occurrence which subsides generally after ten to twenty minutes
whereas attacks in those with anxiety disorders often have to
be monitored and treated due to their
severity.
When it comes to anxiety disorders, the
associated attacks can also appear and diminish over a period
of hours in really severe cases which may at times require
medical attention and treatment. Whereas, with regards to
limited symptom attacks, generally one may be fearful or
frightened but generally after ten to twenty minutes, the
attack subsides at which point individuals experiencing only a
singular attack during an episode can generally return to their
daily routines.
Symptoms of anxiety disorders range from
rapid heartbeat, perspiration, dizziness, trembling,
uncontrollable fear to hyperventilation, just to name a few.
Some individuals also deal with these episodes on a regular
basis, be it daily or weekly and are therefore able to control
same. In addition, attacks derived from anxiety disorders can
also cause negative social experiences and may often lead to
agoraphobia, as over thirty-five percent of individuals with
such disorders, have also been diagnosed as being
agoraphobic.
Whereas individuals experiencing limited
symptom attacks generally feel a shortness of breath followed
by chest pain which is why so many individuals believe they are
having a heart attack during what is later found to be related
to a panic attack. Therefore, it is best one is always honest
with family, friends and physicians regarding these conditions.
This is especially true if such a condition may interfere with
other plans or treatment accordingly. To this end, one can
assure that one receives the best treatment for either
condition. However, it can also prevent a costly amount of
testing if one knows they are experiencing such an attack and
can breathe their way through it without going to the emergency
room or other such establishment. At the same time, if one
could be having a heart attack, one need call an ambulance or
emergency service as soon as possible to assure one is okay and
that the symptoms are not related to a heart attack or other
condition.
Now, with regards to individuals with
occasional limited symptom panic attacks, these attacks are
generally fewer and further between and have fewer symptoms
than those with issues due to anxiety. Also, limited symptom
attacks are generally abrupt and arise out of fear of something
real in the moment. Although such attacks can last up to thirty
minutes, in some cases attacks can be as short a duration as
fifteen seconds. Therefore, the period time in which one
experiences either of these attacks, whether related to anxiety
or otherwise, is not always a deciding factor in which form of
condition one is experiencing at the time.
